Lead Asia-Pacific Program

The Lead Asia-Pacific (LAP) Program is a unique platform for engagement between the Asia-Pacific region’s emerging and established leaders from government, business, civil society and academia.

The LAP Program allows young leaders to develop their own policy ideas on major regional issues and to bring these ideas to high-level government officials at regional summits and track-2 discussion forums. Previous iterations of the LAP program have sent delegations to the ASEAN Summits in both Indonesia (2013) and Malaysia (2015), as well as well as the APEC CEO Summit (2014) in Beijing, China.

In 2016, LAP delegates took part in the Shangri-La Dialogue. This annual summit is held in Singapore at the Shangri-La Hotel and serves as the pre-eminent forum for discussion of security, intelligence and defence matters in the region.

The program has attracted support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the 'Australia Awards', the Malaysian Ministry of Youth & Sports, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, as well as several leading universities from the region.

Future LAP Programs

To maintain a high quality experience for all involved, the LAP program will be changing. Future delegations will focus on smaller delegations, recruiting more experienced participants, and bespoke program design. Stay tuned for more information on new partner forums and delegation details in 2017.
